Zintle is a female Xhosa name, meaning "they are beautiful".
Shweshwe – The tartan of South Africa: this fabric was introduced to South Africa with German settlers in the 19th century, but over time Xhosa women, who took a liking to the stiff indigo-dyed fabric, replaced their animal skin clothes with Shweshwe. Until today it is still used for traditional ceremonies. All original Shweshwe material is now produced in South Africa, still using the original process of feeding the fabric through copper rollers that have been lightly brushed with a weak acid solution and etched with intricate designs.
